CLO3D Workspace Details and How-To
There are many tools and functions in CLO3D. However, we are going to focus only on the essential tools and functions which get you started in CLO3D.
Menu
The menu allows you to access most tools, functions, and assets. For example, if you want to access the 2D sewing pattern, you go to 2D Pattern in the Menu click on it, then come down to Create, after that select this Polygon Tool by clicking on it. Then come down here to the 2D Pattern Window and click one to place a point. After that move your mouse pointer to wherever you want to place your next point.
For this example, I’m going to hover the mouse pointer down, to the right, up (I can also click and drag to make a curve, then click to place the point, now, click here and drag to create a curve for an armhole, and click here to place the first a low-shoulder point, next click to place a high-shoulder point, finally click here right on top this starting point to complete the pattern shape.
Library Panel
The Library Panel allows you to access Favorite and in the Favorite are Assets such as Avatar, Garment, Hanger, Fabric, Hardware, and Trims, and Stage. Double click on each Asset to Open. For example, I’m going to double click on the Avatar, this will bring you the folder asset. Then, double click on the folder to open the sub-folder where you can find Avatars. I’m going to open one of the avatars. If you hover your mouse over the Avatar, you will see the name of the Avatar appears to the right. Double click on the Avatar to open.
After opening the Avatar, I can change her hair, her pose, her shoes, and so on. For example, if I want to change my hair double click on the hair folder. This will bring you to the Avatars’ heads. To change the hair on the Avatar simply double click on the head to change it.
Next, I’m going to Change the Shoes: There are two ways to go to the shoe folder: number one, go to the Library Panel, double click on the Avatar to open the folder and this will bring you to the folder. Next, double click on the Female_V1 to open. After that go to the Shoe folder and double click on it. This will bring you to the Shoes and double-click on the shoes to select. Number two, come over here to this folder, then double click on it to open. Then, come to the shoe folder and double click on it, after that double click on the shoes to select them. Just in case you are curious, this folder is called C: Users/Public/Documents/CLO and it’s located in your C-drive.
Lastly, the Avatar’s Poseto change her pose again, double click on this C: Users/Public/Documents/CLO to open. This will bring you to the pose folder double click on it to open. Then double click on the Pose. Next, the Open Pose window pop-up and select the Pose Only (Maintain Avatar Size), then click OK to confirm.
3D and 2D Windows
Here on the left-hand side is a 3D window. In this window, we have the Avatar of course, and to the left top corner here more like the display of short-cut functions and assets. If you hover your mouse over the icon you will see a gray or a blue dot at the bottom left corner. Blue is active and gray is inactive.
So, there are many functions and it is confusing, however, we are only needed to focus on a few of them for now. The most important ones are Show Avatar, Show Arrangement Points, Show X-ray Joins, Texture Surface and below here we have a garment stress map. Important Note: click on the icon once to activate and click on it twice to deactivate it.
It is the same in the 2D window, just remember that each icon in the 2D window is only affected in the 2d window. For example, I selected the pattern. Then, go to the Front Texture Icon and click on it to see the texture on the fabric, or select the Monochrome Surface Icon to turn the pattern back to a plain white.
Toolbars (3D and 2D)
There are many tools in the 3D and the 2D toolbars. However, we are going to focus on the essential ones, for now, to get you to start without feeling overwhelmed.
Tools You Need to Know in the 3D Window
Simulation Tool, Hand Tool, Select/Move Tool, Edit Sewing Tool, Segment Sewing Tool, and Free Sewing Tool.
Tools You Need to Know in the 2D Window
Transform Pattern Tool, Edit Pattern Tool, Edit Sewing Tool, Segment Sewing Tool, and Free Sewing Tool. Important tip: some tools contain in both 3d and 2d windows such as Edit Sewing Tool, Segment Sewing Tool, and so on.
Cloud and Second Menu
to the top right corner here is a C symbol and a Second Menu. The C symbol is a cloud where you can save your file, and to the right of that is the Second Menu. For example, if you click on this arrow-pointing-down, you will see the sub-menu. I’m going to click on the sub-menu. This will bring you to the Animation window. To go back to where we were, click on that arrow-pointing-down again and this time click on the Simulation. Now, we are back at where we were.
Object Browser
Right below that is an Object Browser. The browser contains Fabric, Button, Buttonhole, Topstitch, and so on. Property Editor: this allows you to see all the information about any selected objects. And it allows, you to alter any object’s property such as changing the color of the fabric, etc. For example, I am going to select this dress pattern and if we look under the Property Editor, we will see the information about that pattern such as the Length, and the color. And if you continue to scroll down, you will see Miscellaneous.
Four Icons Right Below the Property Editor
This first icon here for both 2d and 3d windows. Click on it to select. Next is the 3D icon. This icon allows you to view just the 3d window. After that one is a 2D icon. Again, click on it to select. This icon allows you to view just the 2D window. Lastly, is the Reset icon. This icon allows you to reset the window back to the default which is 3D and 2D windows.
Creating a Simple Dress
I am going to create a simple dress based on the tools and functions that we learned during this video to master your skills.
Saving Your Project
To save the Project go to File > Save As > Project > name your project (for example I named her Red Dress). Then, navigate to where you want to save her.
Saving Snapshot in 4 Poses
After saving the project, now you want to take the snapshots of the dress. To do so go to File > Snapshot > 3D Window. Next, name your snapshots (for example I named her Red Dress 1). Then, select where you want to save it.
