Fashion Design Must Know These Six Important Tools

Hello, Designistas, welcome to Encoder Fashion, I’m Rose. Today I want to share with you six important tools in Adobe Illustrator. These tools will save you time and improve your fashion drawing. I will share with you step and step on how to use these tools.

How to Use the Pen Tool in Adobe Illustrator CC

We use the pen tool to draw a straight line as well as to draw a shape. This Pen tool is located on the left-hand side of the adobe illustrator workspace. For example, I’m going to draw a line and triangular shape. Go to the pen tool and click on it. Then begin by clicking from point A to point B, make sure to press Esc or Enter to stop the path. We called this an open path.

To draw the shape, again go to the pen tool, and click on it. Then begin by clicking from points A, B, C, and back to point A. This time we do not need to press Esc nor Enter because we draw a closed path.

How to Use an Anchor Point Tool in Adobe Illustrator CC

We use the anchor point tool to curve any point on the path. This Anchor point tool is located on the left-hand side of the adobe illustrator workspace. It hides behind the Pen tool. For example, I want to curve this V-neck to a u-neck, while the anchor point tool is active, click on the point here and drag to the right to give the u-neck.

How to Use the Selection Tool in Adobe Illustrator CC

We use the selection tool to move the whole object as well as change the size of the object. This selection tool is located on the left-hand side of the adobe illustrator workspace. For example, I am going to move this object over here and there. Now, I am going to change this rectangular object to a square object.

How to Use the Reflect Tool in Adobe Illustrator CC

We use this reflect tool to reflect an object. This reflect tool is located on the left-hand side of the adobe illustrator workspace. It hides behind the Rotate tool. my second favorite tool to use is adobe illustrator. I will share why this tool is my second favorite. Again, go to the Selection tool, click on it, then marquee select half of the top and we are going to reflect it.

How to Use an Add Anchor Point Tool in Adobe Illustrator CC

We use the Anchor point tool to add points on the path. This Add anchor point tool is located on the left-hand side of the adobe illustrator workspace. It hides behind the Pen tool. For example, I’m going to add the points on this line here. Now, we can change the line into a V-neck shape.

How to Use the Direct Selection Tool in Adobe Illustrator CC

We use the Direct Selection tool to move the anchor points as well as the path. This Direct selection tool is located on the left-hand side of the adobe illustrator workspace. For example, while this tool is active, I can move just one point like this, or I can move the path of the sleeve.
