I am going to show you step by step how to create this pencil skirt from start to finish. There are four (4) steps to create and sew this pencil skirt.     

  1. Measuring and calculating
  2. Drafting the pattern
  3. Cutting the fabric
  4. Sewing the skirt

Fabric Needed to Make a Pencil Skirt

You need approximately one yard of fabric. You can use woven or knit fabric depending on what type of fabric you have. For this demonstration purpose, I’m going to show you how to make a pencil skirt with knit (stretch) fabric. You also need some pattern paper or some newspaper if you don’t have pattern paper.

Tools Needed to Make a Pencil Skirt

  1. The pencil skirt measurement guidelines (right-click to download the charts).
  2. You will need a calculator or a calculator app on your phone.
  3. Pattern paper or newspaper
  4. Pencil or marker
  5. Scissors for cutting fabric
  6. Scissors for cutting paper
  7. Elastic for a waistband (2.5 cm. width)
  8. Measurement tape
  9. Yardstick or sewing ruler
  10. A French curve 24-inches ruler (optional) I recommend having one if you draft a lot of clothing patterns

Sewing and Pattern-making Tools in Details

Finding the right sewing and pattern-making tools and the right material at the right price and meeting the time requirement could be very stressful. At least happened to me and my classmates. Luckily the school provides the material such as pattern paper, so all we need were the sewing and pattern-making tools.

We did not have a lot of time, we have a week to get every sewing and pattern-making tools that we need for our class. We need our tools fast at a reasonable price. My classmates and I were quite struggling. However, we manage to get the tools on time in the end.
