Intro to Fashion Course Week 6 in a Community College USA

Intro to Fashion | Fashion Sketch

What to expect from fashion design students? It is a requirement for students to take the Intro to Fashion course. I was a fashion design student at Santa Fe Community College myself. I recommend students to take this course as soon as they enrolled in a fashion major.

I learned how to sketch the designs as well as learned about fashion history from the “Intro to Fashion” Course.

Based on an article Calvin Klein is a very successful fashion designer and businessman. Klein sold his first collection (in 1968) for $10,000 to Bonwit Teller in New York City.

Klein produced sportswear, classic blazers, and women’s underwear collections. In 1973, he received the first award called Coty American Fashion Critic’s Award for the 74-pieces women's collection.

Klein’s annual revenue increased to $30 million. He had licenses for scarves, shoes, belts, furs, sunglasses, and sheets. Klein and his partner Schwartz made $4 million each.

Klein assigned licenses for cosmetics, jeans, and menswear, and his annual selling predicted to up at 100 million. Klein’s production sold through 12,000 stores in the states and was available in six other countries (Biography).

Klein encountered increased pressure from all sides including disagreements with the menswear line, disappointing sales, enormous employee turnover, and the stock market crash. Klein’s company faced bankruptcy. Klein managed to get out of debt. He sold his company to Phillips Van Heusen Corp (PVH) for $400 million and about 300 million in stocks.
