Understanding the Paper Sizes US-Letter Paper | A4 Paper | A3 Paper
For example, the A4 Paper is 8.27 x 11.69 inches and the rectangular is 7.27 x 10.69 inches which means that the paper has a 0.5-inch margin. This, allows you to place the pattern onto the template without losing the sizes of your e-pattern. See the A4 paper size image below for more detail.

How to make a perfect PDF Sewing Template for an A4 paper size. So, you can use this template for your e-pattern/digital sewing patterns. This, PDF sewing template allows you to print your real/full-size patterns from your home printers.
These include: creating the pages, creating the borders around the pages, numbering the pages, and then saving that template for your future use.
After saving the template, I’m going to show you how to use that template for your digital sewing pattern. Finally, save that pattern as a PDF sewing format, so you can print your pattern in a real-size pattern from your home printers.
How to Create the Art-boards in Adobe Illustrator
- Page size: 7.27 inches by 10.69 inches
- Portrait
- Creating 30 art-boards
- Bleed: 0 (zero)
- Spacing: 0 (zero)
- Grid by Row
- Column 5
How to Create the Scaling-square
- The scaling square: 1 inch by 1 inch with 1 point stroke
- Name the scaling-square 1” x 1” in
- The scaling square is 2.5 centimeters by 2.5 centimeters with 1 point stroke
- Name the scaling square 2.5 x 2.5 cm
How to Create the Circles
- The 0.5 inch (1/2 inch) circle
- The color is gray
- 70 percent opacity
How to Create the Borders
- The size is 7.27 in x 10.69 in
- No, fill with 2 points stroke
- Align the Horizontal Center with the art-boards
- Align the Vertical Center with the art-boards
Numbering the Pages for an A4 PDF Sewing Template
- Font size is 120
- Opacity is 60 percent
- Place about 1/3 of the page from the top

How to Open | Load a PDF Sewing Template

How to Import | Place a Digital Pattern Onto a PDF Sewing Template
- Creating a layer (name it)
- File > Place > Navigate to the File > Select the File > Open
- Hide the (sample skirt pattern before saving it as a PDF sewing)
Tips: be sure to save the finished pattern in an Adobe Illustrator format first so you can go back and edit your pattern later.
Saving Adobe Illustrator as a PDF Sewing Format
- File > Save As > Name the File > Format: Adobe (PDF) > Check: All > Save PDF.
This will bring the Save Adobe PDF Window

- Standard: None, Compatibility: Acrobat 7 (PDF 1.6)
