Tech Tips: Remote: How to Trace Pattern (PDF) from Photos in CLO3D

With this pattern, we do have some unique situations, ok. First of all, the pattern is in actual size. This means, that we don’t need to scale it. Secondly, the pattern comes in 3 separate files. I will share with you, some tips, tools, and functions for tracing this pattern. Then, save it as a project file, as well as export that pattern in dxf and pdf formats. How to Save CLO3D File as a Project

  • File
  • Save Project
  • Name the file: 1st draft men raglan shirt
  • Select the pattern folder to save the file to
  • Click on Save

How to Bring the Pattern into CLO3D

  • CLO Library
  • Click on a plus sign (+)
  • Navigate to the pattern folder
  • Select the folder
  • Click on Open

How to Bring Pattern into CLO Workspace

  • Open the Folder: Double-click on the Folder
  • Hover the mouse over the pattern
  • Right-click
  • Add to the workspace (repeat this step to all the pattern pieces

How to Trace the Pattern in CLO3D

  • Name the default fabric to Pattern
  • Internal Polygon/Line tool (G)
  • Draw the pattern shape/lines
  • Adjust the points on the patterns
  • Edit Pattern tool (Z): click on the point to adjust
  • Edit Curvature tool: click on the line to create the curve
  • Trace the patterns: Transform Pattern tool (A)
  • Click one on the outer internal shape
  • Trace tool (I) > hover the mouse over the selected internal shape
  • Right-click
  • Trace as a Pattern
  • Click one on the page to place the pattern
  • Repeat this step with all the pattern pieces

How to Convert Internal Lines to Baselines

  • Transform Pattern tool (A)
  • Click one on the internal shape
  • Right-click
  • Convert to Baseline
  • Repeat these steps on all the internal shapes/lines

How to Apply Notches to the Patterns in CLO

  • Notch tool
  • Place 2 notches on the back bodice: 1st notch is (6 cm) and the 2nd notch is (8 cm). Both notches are measured from the side seam toward the neckline (see the video link).
  • Place 1 notch on the front bodice: the notch is (6 cm) from the side-seam toward the neck-line
  • Repeat these steps with the sleeve

How to Unfold Front/Back/Neckband Patterns in CLO3D

  • Edit Pattern tool (Z)
  • Hover the mouse over the center line
  • Right-click
  • Unfold
  • Repeat these steps with the back and neckband patterns

How to Copy the Pattern Using Symmetric Pattern (with Sewing)

  • Transform Pattern tool (A)
  • Select the sleeve
  • Right-click
  • Symmetric Pattern (with Sewing)

How to Save CLO3D File as a Finish Project

  • File
  • Save As
  • Project 
  • Name the file: Done men raglan shirt
  • Select the pattern folder
  • Click on Save

How to Remove All the Extra Pattern Pieces in CLO

  • Transform Pattern tool (A)
  • Marquee selects the pattern pieces which are not part of the “men raglan pattern,” and then presses the delete/backspace to delete.

How to Export E-patterns as DXF File in CLO3D

  • File
  • Export
  • Pattern Outlines (DXF)
  • Name the file: done men raglan pattern
  • Save

Basic:
  • DXF Format: DXF-ASTM
  • Scale: Millimeter
  • %: 100.00%
  • Rotation: Do Not Rotate
Option:
  • Duplicate Notch on Seam Allowance (check)
  • Click OK

How to Export E-patterns as PDF File in CLO3D

  • File
  • Export
  • Adobe (PDF)
  • Name the file: Done men raglan pattern
  • Save

  • Rotation: Do Not Rotate
Page Margins:
  • Left: 5.00 cm
  • Right: 5.00 cm

  • Pattern Annotations (check)
