- Must have 3 to 1 fabric ratio
- Must have segments/points on fabric edges
- Must have internal lines for the pleats to fold
In this video, we’re going to cover why the pleat sewing tool in CLO3D does not work. OK. First of all, let me go ahead and freeze these pattern pieces. For these two small pieces, right-click and select freeze, and I’m going to share with you why the Pleats Sewing Tool does not work.
A Step-by-step About the Pleats Sewing Tool CLO3D
OK. Next, I’m going to use this Pleats Folding Tool to fold all these pleats. OK, I’m going to come over here to this pleats folding tool. Click on it to select. I’m going to click once to start.
Then click it twice to open the Pleats Fold window. Then I’m going to select Box Pleats the number of internal lines per pleat is set to 3. The full angle is 0-360. Leave everything as is and then click, OK. I’m going to do the same with these pleated patterns here, click one to start.
Click twice to end. This will open this Pleats Fold window, and I’m going to check the box right here. The number of internal lines per pleat is set to 3. Leave everything else as is. Click Ok. So next, I’m going to use the Pleats Sewing Tool in CLO to sew the pattern together.
I’m going to begin my sewing. Just click once to start and then click once to end, then click once to start and once to end. OK, so this is a problem. We can see that the Pleats Sewing Tool isn’t working.
So you can see that we have a lot of lines tangled up in one another. And if I hit the spacebar to simulate, it all twists and tangles itself together. That doesn’t work. OK, so I’m going to show you the solution to this problem.
To do that, first of all, I’m going to come over here to the Transform Pattern Tool and click on it. Then I’m going to press on the spacebar to stop the simulation and click on the pattern pieces. Then I’m going to click on these pattern pieces.
Then I’m going to right-click and select reset the 2D Arrangement Selected. OK. Next, I’m going to show you why. So for these pattern pieces, I only create. Internal lines, but no segments. Right here. All plain straight lines, no point on these edges here. Compared to this one.
Understanding the Pleats Sewing Tool CLO3D
Let me show you. I’m going to use the Pleat Sewing Tool right there. The Pleat Sewing Tool, I’m going to do the same. Click once right here. Click once over here. Click once right here. And then hover the mouse to the right, then I’m going to click once to end.
OK, so as you can see the Pleats Sewing Tool can identify which segment to sew to, because I created segments as well as the internal lines for this pleated fabric. But for this one, I only created internal lines without the segments.
So the Pleats Sewing Tool works only if we have the segments as well as the internal lines placed on to the pleated pattern. OK. By the way, I have a video for beginners on how to make pleats in CLO3D. You should go check it out.
OK, so as you can see, this pleat here is tangled up and doesn’t work. And this pleat here works just fine. I hope this video helps with solving a problem or correcting a misunderstanding about the Pleats Sewing Tool CLO3D.
