How to Draft a Basic Top Pattern in CLO 3D with Formula

Drafting a basic top pattern in CLO 3D is simpler than you think, and the result is always correct if you have the right formula. In this demonstration, I will show you the simple and effective way to draft basic top patterns using a perfect formula. This formula is also suitable for drafting different types of garments, but for now, we will focus on drafting the basic top pattern.

There are two sections of measurement and formula. Additionally, there are step-by-step image guidelines along with some tutorial links from steps 1 through 6. With these measurements, formulas, guideline images, and tutorials, you are all set to become a pattern maker in no time. Okay, let's get started.

Measurement in 1/4 (Centimeters)

  1. Top Length: 63
  2. Bust Circumference: 22.5
  3. Waist Circumference: 21
  4. Hip Circumference: 22.75
  5. Shoulder Length: 19 in (1/2)
  6. Sleeve Length: 60
  7. Wrist Circumference: 13 in (1/2)
  8. High Point Shoulder to Waist-Front/Back: 35, 38
  9. Neck-B-D: 3
  10. Neck-F-D: 14

Formula

  1. Shoulder Slope-Back Internal Line Depth: 1.5, 3
  2. Shoulder Slope-Front Internal Line Depth: 1, 1.5 (from the Shoulder Slope-Back)
  3. Armhole Depth: Full shoulder length divided by 2 + 4. Ex. 38/2 = 19 + 4 = 23
  4. Dart Line: 8.5; also a Neck Width
  5. Sleeve Cap Depth: 12
  6. Bicep: Measure a finished front and back armholes, divide by 2, then subtract 4. Ex. 45.85/2 = 22.93 - 4 = 18.93
  7. Notches: 9, 11 (2 on the Top-B/sleeve), 1 on the Top-F/sleeve.
