How to Access Your Etsy Account If You Lose Your Phone Number (No More Skype!)

How I Almost Lost My Etsy Account (And How You Can Protect Yours Too)

Hey, what’s up guys!
I almost lost my Etsy account because I didn’t have access to my old Skype phone number anymore — and Skype is closed now. Fortunately, I managed to transfer that Skype number to a Teams phone number, but this post is really focused on how you can access your Etsy account if you ever run into a similar problem. So, let’s get into it!
What You Need To Access Your Etsy Account

First and foremost, you must have this information ready:

  • Last four digits of your bank account — This is the bank account where you receive deposits from Etsy.
  • Number of unpublished listings — You need to know how many unpublished listings you have in your Etsy account. If you don’t have any, just put zero. By the way, I’ve created a form you can copy and fill out — you’ll find it under my video description. Just paste in your information and send it to Etsy Support. I’ve also included the Etsy Support link below for easy access.
  • Last four digits of your Social Security Number or your VAT ID — Etsy Support may ask for this to verify your identity.

How To Prevent This From Happening Again

Last but not least, if you want to avoid this hassle in the future, there are two important things you can do. First, you can disable two-factor authentication (2FA) — but only if you make sure to set a super strong password. You can use Google’s password generator to create a secure password that’s hard to hack.

Unfortunately, Etsy doesn’t offer email verification — they only use phone numbers for 2FA. So if you’re in the US or Europe and you stay in one location, this is usually not a problem since you always have your phone with you. But for digital nomads like me, who travel a lot, it can be tricky. I used to depend on my Skype phone number, but since Skype closed, I couldn’t do that anymore.

However, like I mentioned, I was able to transfer my Skype number to a Teams phone. You just pay for it monthly, and you can receive verification codes and messages from Etsy or your bank using your Teams phone number. I’ll share more about how to set that up in my next video — but for now, let’s stay focused on getting back into your Etsy account.

Final Tips To Keep Your Etsy Account Safe

Here’s one more tip: keep a record of your important Etsy account details. Take a screenshot of your bank account’s last four digits and the number of unpublished listings in your shop. Save these screenshots in a safe place — or simply remove all your unpublished listings so your number is always zero. That way, you’ll always have the information Etsy Support asks for.

Alright, there you have it guys! I hope you found this helpful. If you did, please give this post (and my video) a thumbs up and subscribe to Encoder Fashion — it really helps YouTube share this with more people who might need it.

Thank you so much for reading — see you next time! Bye!
