Make Sure to Oil the Machine before Use I bought a  Brother 1634D  Serger recently, and I was very excited to use it. So, I skimmed through the  manua l to get my serger up and running. I was sewing away; then I started to notice the machine started to make a sound that grew louder and louder. I just want to be honest with you, I almost took the machine back to the  store , because the machine kept making so much noise. Then I was curious. What was wrong with it? So, I grabbed the  manual,  and this time I read it from start to finish. And there, on the second paragraph of page 57, under  REMARKS , it stated:  “Be sure to  oil  your  sewing machine  before use.
